Souzão is a rare varietal known for its deep color and intense flavor, and is often used in the production of port wine. Our Souzão is a small production of only two barrels, and has typically been used in other blends, however the 2016 vintage of Souzão was bottled on its own. The wine was fermented in an open top fermentation bin, with twice daily punch downs for gentle extraction. The Souzão was aged for an extended 37 months, and showcases an “Old World” wine feel. This Souzão has soft tannins and acidity, with a deep rich color and intense fruit aromas. Flavors of black currants, licorice, leather, and spice on the finish are present.
